For roses to bloom, they require light, soil, and care. They long to stand in the sun, root themselves in nourishment, and drink regularly. In spring, the faded blossoms are removed with care, making space for what is yet to bloom.
Deadheading is the act of removing what has already flowered. A gesture where what once was is allowed to leave, so that the plant’s energy can be directed toward new buds, healthier leaves, deeper roots.
In Deadheading, I have taken inspiration from the textile work Kärlekens ros (The Rose of Love) by Karin Larsson. The artwork was part of the exhibition Karin! at Konstepidemin in Gothenburg, 8-10/5 2026. Acquired by Konstrådet (The Swedish Public Art Agency), Spring 2026.
